Castrol EDGE Review

First of all, my gratitude to Castrol Malaysia for the privilege to try out the CASTROL EDGE 5W-40.

My trip to the Castrol Auto Service (CAS) was a pleasant one indeed as I am confident that  I would be getting only the originals and the attention of their professionals. Speaking of that, they even managed to spot a nail on my rear tyre and luckily did not penetrate. Why genuine or original are important ? Oil aside, using substandard oil filter will also cause additional engine wear as it is unable to filter particles efficiently. That is why, all this while, I have always insisted on getting my own lubricant and filter from reputable and trusted source only to avoid recycled oil and imitations.

The excitement starts, upon leaving the CAS, I decided to delay the refueling slightly as I feel that the basis for fuel consumption comparison ought to be fair.  Generally ‘pedal to metal’ is not my way of driving, but to gauge how much improvement the new liquid is able to perform, I chose to differ from the norm a bit for a little while before my refill.

I am actually delighted with  the  responsiveness and the eagerness of the engine to transform the fuel into power. It is especially more apparent for post 80km/h where the engine has become smoother and ‘lighter’ even when going up slope, it was sluggish then but not now.

On the flat and straight, the engine is now more lively and it felt like it possess additional ‘horses’ under the hood waiting to be deployed when needed.
It is without doubt that Castrol EEGE has managed to impress me within such a short period of time that even the fuel consumption has improved as my trip meter registered an additional  27 KM from the last refill with only intra-urban driving (an improvement from 10.48km/l to 11.00km/l)

It has just become a more enjoyable drive on my car that even the engine start up relatively easier.

Noise Level , as human ears barely pick up any sound differential level of  under 3dB, so to be objective and without prejudice, I decided to apply a scientific method, a decibel meter or rather a similar application ( TOO LOUD? - downloadable free of charge from App Store  ). From my findings and specifically for my Campro basic (Non-IAFM/ Non-CPS), where roaring is a characteristic, the comparison of noise vs.  engine RPM reading before and after Castrol EDGE has figuratively little difference, however since the car now is ‘light’ and smooth, it actually register less roar because I don’t have to rev too hard.

Previously, my venture into fully synthetic oil was merely to prolong the service interval as I could not derive much tangible benefits from it. Today , Castrol EDGE has changed my perception on that and I am truly amazed with its ability to get the most out of my engine. Remarkably, even the dipstick showed almost untainted gold colour after more than 12days of usage. It is really more than just oil. It’s liquid engineering at its best.

So, if you are a motorist who care about your ride and is prepared to use only the best, then Castrol EDGE is your answer.  I will definitely recommend it to my brother as he is one of those 4WD enthusiasts who traveled thousand of kilometers to places like Bangkok, Chiang Mai that definitely require better protection one way or another.
